Story and founders

The name ‘Belledonne′ originated from the name of a mountain range in the northern French Alps, near the city of Grenoble. Grenoble is sometimes referred to as the ‘French Silicon Valley′ due to the presence of many highly qualified engineers and a wide range of companies of different sizes working in the domains of electronics, nano-technologies and software services.

Belledonne Communications was founded in 2010 by Simon Morlat, the original author of Linphone, and Jehan Monnier, who worked for nine and ten years, respectively, in the telecom division of Hewlett Packard.

The Linphone project

Since it was launched in 2001 as the very first open source application using SIP on Linux, Linphone has become very popular, especially within the open source community.

Our engineering team is continuously working on the Linphone project to support the latest versions of most popular platforms and to provide advanced Voice/Video and Instant Messaging features.

Taiwan Mobile

4Com PLC was founded in 1999 with the aim of improving the communications services of the UK’s SME market. Since then, the company has grown to over 300 people and currently provides 10,000+ UK businesses with phone systems.

Libon

Libon is an all-in-one communications app for iPhone and Android, with features such as customised greetings for each contact, instant messages and free HD-quality calls to Libon contacts. Previously owned by Orange Vallée, the subsidiary in charge of innovation and development of the Orange Group, Libon SAS became independent in 2018.

PT. INVISION

PT. INVISION Astrindo Pratama is an Indonesian communication technology company, and one of the leading call centre application companies in the region. PT. Invision provides a complete range of advanced software solutions such as Interactive Voice Response, computer technology integration and voice recording systems.

PT. Invision chose Linphone and Flexisip to develop their multi-platform VoIP application.

Nettia

Nettia OY is a Finnish company that has integrated Linphone into its VoIP application, Telz, in order to provide high quality and cheap international and local calls.

VTCSecure

VTCSecure is an international technology company that creates and implements innovative forms of telecommunication, particularly for members of the disabled community. They have developed a solution based on Liblinphone that ensures equal and effective communications for all, and principally for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community, by using Real-Time Text in their application.

TextMe

Based in the US, TextMe Inc. aims to offer rich mobile communication (text, calls and mobile data) for free to anyone in the world. In 2012, the TextMe app became the first application to offer SMS, rich messaging and voice and video calling, on both iOS and Android. The VoIP audio/video calling feature of the TextMe app is powered by the Liblinphone engine.

Bouygues Telecom

Bouygues Telecom is one of the leading telecom operators in France, offering phones, mobiles, fibre boxes, television, internet networking and recycling services.

TextPlus

TextPlus is a leading mobile communications service that lets anyone text, talk and share for free or cheaply. Its open network connects over 110 million people worldwide through a chart-leading app for iOS, Android and Windows smartphones and devices, including the iPod Touch and tablets.
