Flexisip 2.6: discover the key new features in this release

Flexisip 2.6 is now available! This new version continues the ongoing efforts to improve reliability and enhance the platform.

It is part of Flexisip’s new release strategy, aiming to deliver three major releases per year. This updated cadence will enable more frequent improvements, easier deployments, and faster delivery of new features to users.

What to remember from Flexisip 2.6

Externalization of push notifications

Flexisip 2.6 introduces a new way to manage push notifications by delegating their delivery to a Flexisip Account Manager (FAM) instance.

Previously, each Flexisip server communicated directly with Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) and Google Firebase. Now, this process can be centralized in Flexisip Account Manager, which handles forwarding notifications to native push platforms.

✅ Benefits:

  • Simplified on-premise deployment of the Linphone suite
  • Centralized notification management via a FlexiAPI server instance
  • Reduced constraints related to push certificates

Additionally, Flexisip now supports the use of an outbound HTTP(S) proxy for push notifications, making deployments easier in enterprise environments where all external HTTP(S) traffic must go through a proxy.

Improved service availability

This version introduces new automatic process freeze detection mechanisms. In case of anomalies, Flexisip can detect blocking situations and automatically restart affected services, reducing downtime and improving continuity.

✅ Benefits:

  • Improved platform resilience
  • Reduced service interruptions
  • Higher production availability

New administration tools

Administrators now have access to new commands to view and invalidate the user authentication cache. When a password is updated via Flexisip Account Manager, changes can be applied immediately without waiting for cache expiration.

✅ Benefits:

  • Reduced authentication cache delay
  • Simplified support operations

Secure Redis connections via TLS

Flexisip 2.6 also adds TLS encryption support for Redis connections, improving security in distributed architectures and production environments.

More flexible SIP routing

A new configuration parameter allows finer control over SIP transport selection used to route requests. This improves deployments involving multiple networks or transport interfaces.

Conference server now independent

The conference server is now distributed as a dedicated package with its own release cycle. This allows it to evolve independently from the core Flexisip system.

✅ Benefits:

  • Independent release cycles
  • Simplified maintenance
  • More flexible deployments
  • Easier evolution of conferencing features

💡 The conference server now has its own dedicated repository.

EKT server plugin

The new EKT Server plugin strengthens conference security by enabling end-to-end encryption through secure key distribution for group calls and conferences.

Preparing your migration to Flexisip 2.6

Before upgrading, it is recommended to:

💡 System support updates:

  • End of support for Debian 11.
  • End of support for Ubuntu 22.04
  • Added support for Ubuntu 26.04

As with any major upgrade, reviewing the migration guide is strongly recommended before production deployment.
